Craft Industry Alliance and Studio Art Quilt Associates are proud to announce a membership partnership launching today.
Studio Art Quilt Associates, Inc. (SAQA) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote the art quilt through education, exhibitions, professional development, documentation, and publications. SAQA defines an art quilt as “a creative visual work that is layered and stitched or that references this form of stitched layered structure.”
Founded in 1989 by an initial group of 50 artists, SAQA now has over 3,400 members: artists, teachers, collectors, gallery owners, museum curators and corporate sponsors. A dedicated core of volunteers and staff keep the organization vibrant, dynamic, and progressive.
The CIA and SAQA membership partnership offers a 10% discount for current members of one organization who become first time members of the other.
Many SAQA members are not only art quilters, but also small business people. SAQA artists sell their work in person and online, teach workshops, develop original products and methods, and more. By joining CIA these artists will get access to the ongoing support we offer to creative businesses including our twice monthly digital journal with professionally written articles on business fundamentals, craft news and trends. They’ll also be able to attend our monthly webinars and Coffee Klatsch online meetups and take place in forum discussions.
CIA members who make art quilts can join SAQA and get access to tremendous opportunities to show their work in curated group shows. SAQA members also receive a quarterly full-color print publication and get access to a supportive community of reputable quilt artists to learn from and grow together with.
