On Wednesday Craftsy.com sent an email to members of its affiliate program with news of changes to the affiliate marketing commission structure for supplies. Under the new terms affiliates will be paid a 20% commission on sales of Boundless and Cloudborn products, Craftsy’s in-house brands of fabric and yarn, through the end of 2016. That rate will go down to 15% at the start of 2017. Affiliates will no longer earn a commission on sales of any other products on the site.

The changes represent a 10% increase in commission rates for the in-house brands (5% after the start of the new year).

Craftsy overhauled its website on October 1 to better integrate supplies, kits, and patterns with the online classes the company produces. CEO John Levisay explained the changes way: “We feel that integrating learning, supplies, patterns, and kits within these categories will be a better experience for our members, and that is one of the driving forces behind the site redesign.”

The new affiliate structure has led some bloggers to speculate that Craftsy may discontinue carrying brands of quilting fabric and yarn other then Boundless and Cloudborn sometime in the next year. We asked Partner Marketing Manager Brittany Haas to shed some light on the company’s future plans for supplies. She told us in an email, “Our strategy is what you see today on the site, and that is to offer a mix of Boundless and Cloudborn products alongside many other brands. We are working to continue our commitment of providing the best products for our customers!”

UPDATE November 11, 2016:

Craftsy sent an email to affiliates today with the following message:

“We have been listening! Over the last few weeks since our program commission structure changed, we have received an overwhelming amount of feedback from affiliates like you. We have taken your feedback to heart and based on your feedback we will be making the following changes effective tomorrow November 12th!”

The updated rates grant affiliates a 4% commission on all products other than the in-house brands. This is still down from the 10% commission before the new site launched, and the cookie length has been reduced from 7 to 5 days. The class commission of 15% remains the same, but the cookie has been reduced from 7 to 5 days on that as well.
