YMN played such an important role in the industry; I’m sad to see it go. 🙁

The people I interviewed mostly said they followed the businesses hosting the awards/grants, and found out directly through their channels. I was surprised by that, to be honest! I’d assumed people would have […]

I’ve been refusing to do any work for free, and it’s been good both for my own peace of mind and also for my business. Definitely trust your gut!

@spacecadetsteph I hired my VA last spring, when I had a lot of client work on my plate and wanted to make sure my own business didn’t suffer. I felt very timid, especially because the virtual aspect meant that though we had a couple of Skype calls, we didn’t really *know* each other. So I asked her to do things like make promo imagery, etc. – t…[Read more]

Clever to use text shortcuts that way, @swoodsonsays!
Last week, I finally asked my virtual assistant to help me in ways that transcend the menial tasks I’d been asking her to do for me. I don’t know why I felt timid about actually asking for her *assistance*, but I’m so glad I did. I don’t *really* need help making blog and social media imagery,…[Read more]

I’m so glad you found it helpful, @maerihoward! I got set up using info available from Zippy. Because you’re already very familiar with WordPress, it shouldn’t involve too steep a learning curve. Getting it hooked up with an email provider if you also want to have emails coordinated with your class was the part I found trickiest, but mostly…[Read more]

@maerihoward The messaging around Zippy – enthusiastic words from the founder, dude-bro design, etc. – make my skin crawl a little in that get-rich-quick kind of way. But the product is great, and it’s what they say it is, and they really are (at least as of when I needed their help last winter) very responsive and friendly about helping. The onl…[Read more]

@maerihoward Zippy runs on WordPress, and supports any media you can embed in a WordPress post – audio included. You determine when lessons (posts) go live when you create your class. I’ve used ConvertKit to drip emails to coincide with lessons – the emails don’t involve any rich media.
I’m not sure if this addresses your question about audio – l…[Read more]

Hi all. I definitely paid a one-time fee (for the year of support, etc.) for Zippy Courses last winter. That’s what I’m seeing offered here as the standard package: https://zippycoursesplugin.com/pricing/
It’s possible the company started offering a hosted service with a monthly fee, but I do admit that after I started using it, I stopped looking…[Read more]

Yes! This is such an important thing to think about! Using things like contractions (“I’ve”, say, rather than “I have”) can do *wonders* for making your writing sound more like speaking, without going so far as to […]

It sure is. It occurred to me only after I wrote this that I should have added in some suggestions for ways to try to make it less time-consuming or stressful! Like partnering up with a fellow blogger to proofread […]
