Description | Hi, my name is Vicky Katzman. Since graduating the Rhode Island School of Design in 1990 with a BFA in Illustration, I’ve worked on a freelance basis for clients such as The New York Times and Condé Nast, with projects ranging from posters, book jackets and t-shirts to signage and shopping bags. My work has been recognized by American Illustration, Communication Arts, Print, and the Society of Illustrators. Since my training at RISD emphasized intense studio work and demanded a high level of craftsmanship, my process has always been firmly rooted in the handmade. My favorite techniques are block printing and cut paper…the meditative quality inherent in the process of cutting paper or carving wood brings me a sense of peace and joy which I hope to pass on to the viewer through my artwork. My work has been described as “strong”, “striking” and “eye-catching” because of the graphic compositions and bold colors, as well as “earthy”, “handmade” and “textural” because of the organic forms, the nature of my process and the mediums I work in. I think I’ve found success because people enjoy my artwork, I’m able to brainstorm and collaborate well with my clients, I love what I do, and I’m enthusiastic about every job that I take on! |
