SOHO Publishing will no longer publish Knit Simple Magazine. Vogue Knitting Magazine will now have a reduced publication schedule, going from five issues per year to two. SOHO has laid off much of the magazine staff, many of whom will have their last day on Friday.
CEO Carrie Kilmer said in an email yesterday that the company plans to continue with its other divisions. “We will continue to host retreats and run in-person and virtual Knitting LIVE! events,” she wrote. “Furthermore we will continue to publish books.” Virtual Knitting Live is taking place May 11-18 and includes classes taught by well-known knitting instructors, a keynote by Clara Parkes, live interviews conducted by Kristy Glass, plus vendors in a virtual marketplace.
In January of this year, SOHO closed down Yarn Market News, the trade magazine for the yarn and fiber community due to a reduction in advertising revenue.
* Note: Our newsletter originally stated that Vogue Knitting would cease publication entirely. This was incorrect.
I have been a Vogue Knitting Magazine subscriber for many years. It breaks my heart that only 2 magazines will be published per year. What will be the cost to continue receiving my magazine yearly?
I renewed my subscription recently for 2 years. Will my subscription continue at 2 issues a year for the next 4 years or will I have the option for a refund?
Thank you. I am disappointed. I attended my first VKL in Columbus last year.
I also share this issue, having just renewed for 2 years.
Will i be reimbursed for unused portion of my subscription for my favorite mag, Knit Simple?
I renewed my subscription for two years in September, 2020, not knowing that there would be only two issues a year. Only one issue has arrived since then, Winter, 2020! May I use my subscription payment to purchase books or may please get a refund? I am almost 90 years old and at your current rate of publication, either would be preferable to waiting for another issue. I miss the your magazine and still knit from old issues.

I hope there is some reconsideration about folding Knit Simple! The garments are beautiful , simple, and affordable to make.
I am very sad to see Knit Simple fold. It’s my favorite knitting mag. 🙁
Ditto! I’m really wrecked by this decision, but I get it—the world as we knew it is gone. I am very sad.
I just received a gift subscription for Vogue Knitting. Will I still receive 5 issues over an extended time petiod?
I renewed my knit simple subscription in June 2020 unaware that they shut down in May. And yet they cashed my check. I have called and left several messages for Cindy and received one call back. I returned her missed call and have not heard a thing since. My check was cashed fraudulently. They closed in May. Should not have cashed my check in June.
I agree, Knit Simple is my favorite magazine. I still have a year and a half on my subscription. Will I will be reimbursed for my remaining issues?
I just renewed my Knit Simple subscription. I have heard nothing about what action they are taken.
I think it is a shame that subscribers can’t be notified so they can choose to get a refund instead of another mag that they did not subscribe to.
Agreed, Knit simple is my favorite magazine. Will I get a refund. I only received 2 magazines in 2020 and I subscribed to get 4… Knit simple is fun.
Why are they not putting this on the Knit Simple Mag website if this is the case?
Don’t they want to inform their readers?
Will I get a refund on my remaining issues? Charlotte S.

I was wonding do you have any sock magazines. Or any up to date magazines.
My favorite, too. I’ve made lots of the cover items. Good thing I kept all my issues.
Such a loss for knitters.
Highly disappointed to learn the news about Knit Simple. My favorite magazine! Different sized projects, great color choices, easy to intermediate difficulty. Along with interesting columns and articles. Vogue is a little too artsy for me. It’s rare that I choose a big project like a sweater. We’ll see. 😢
I agree, I love Knit Simple and have subscribed to it for years.
I have subscribe to Vogue knitting for many, many years, maybe even 20. I read every issue from cover to cover and will really miss the number of issues sent out. However in these difficult times I know that things have to change and I will just read two issues from cover to cover.
I purposely have gone out of my way buying (and supporting) knitting magazines since most magazines have folded. Sad. I enjoyed your magazines far more then buying individual patterns online.
I guess it’s a sign of the times. With patterns and tutorials readily available on line I find I no longer take classes at yarn shops or buy magazines. I wish you had a different interviewer. I use to follow Kristy Glass until I realized I was hearing the same thing over and over. At least one third of every interview she does is about her. I want to hear about the shop, the dyer, the designer, not Kristy.
Very sorry to hear this news! I enjoy both publications – used more of the patterns in Knit Simple and was inspired by articles and creative visions in Vogue. There is something about getting a new magazine in the mail that online resources, wonderful as they are, just cannot replace.
I have all issues of both magazines from day one of their publication. So sad to see them end like this.
I also have been a subscriber to Vogue for many many years. Will our subscriptions be extended if you’re cutting down on issues ??
Robin
I am so sorry to see Knit Simple discontinued. The patterns were fresh and easy. I WANT a magazine in my hands to thumb through when looking for a project. Scrolling through the computer just is not the same. I do it, but I still want my library of books and magazines. I took Vogue for years and years and still have them but found it was getting a little too artsy in later years. Still, twice a year is not much. I would rather a smaller issue with fresh ideas than waiting 6 months. Of course, the price will determine if I continue to purchase.
I would love to subscribe to vogue and how can I get the magazine

What happens to subscribers to KnitSimple?
I recently subscribed to Knit Simple and NOT received the recent issue. Will I get a refund? This is bad business and bad news!
Please reach out to SoHo Publishing for questions about your subscription: https://www.sohopub.com/
I am disappointed hearing the news that Vogue will only have 2 issues a year. Could you tell me how many more issues of Vogue I will receive on my subscription?
Thank you,
Virginia Schindler
Please contact SoHo Publishing directly for questions about your subscription.
Super disappointed to hear this news. I still had the fall issue and holiday issue left on my subscription for Knit Simple (plus the gift subscription I had purchased for my mother last year for her birthday). I had sent in the postcard in 04/2020 and hadn’t heard back and noticed the payment hadn’t gone through my credit card yet. I just got a notice today asking me to send in a chq or money order and after reading the above article I’m not sure why? For knit simple subscribers will we get transferred over to a Vogue knitting subscription? or will we be refunded. Or maybe neither given that I’m commenting on this 3 months after the article was written and have heard nothing. When will corporations learn that communications, even bad ones, are required.
I called a few weeks ago and was told that they were refunding my money on Knit SImple. still waiting on that check
Also was told that the next copy of the Vogue Knitting would be the last copy this year and next year would be the two issues.. they were not sure when those 2021 issues would be publish
they did not want to credit my Vogue knitting with the KS funds as that would have taken me to 2025 and who knew if they would be in business then
Will i be reimbursed for unused portion of my subscription for my favorite mag, Knit Simple?
i called the magazine and was told yes. that was weeks ago, so still waiting
I wondered if we would be reimbursed or our subscription changed to Vogue Knitting.
the rep asked me if I wanted that option. since I already had VK, which was paid in the future, she said I would get a refund. and most likely also when they decided when VK was going to two issues a year, they would refund some of my prepays. from the way it sounded, if you do not want VK, you can get a full refund.
Knit Simple should refund money to subscribers for unused portion of your subscription! If you don’t receive one, contact the BBB and other organizations that deal with mail fraud!
I have subscriptions to both magazines. Will the remainder of my subscriptions be refunded? I had also subscription to Vogue Pattern Magazines, and received nothing in refund even though I had just resubscribed.
Please reach out to the publisher directly for customer service inquiries.
I have reached out TWICE to the publishers to get a refund for Knit simple and nothing has come of it. Once was in June, second time in early September
I just got a Vogue Knitting magazine today. I had to Google to find out that Knit Simple is no longer in publication. I’m really disappointed. I paid for a Knit Simple subscription. The patterns are much simpler.
I agree!
Extremely disappointed that Knit Simple Magazine will be no more. I have a gift subscription to it and had only received 2 issues of the 4 that I should. Would have been nice to be informed about this instead of wondering why I had not received another issue. Found out that it was no longer being published by searching the web. BAD business practice not to notify those who were receiving subscriptions! Guess I’m now out 2 issues which I was due. Would be nice to at least offer back issues or something instead of NOTHING and no notification!!!!
Ditto. I subscribed to Knit Simple in the first part of May, and now I googled to find out what gives with the Vogue Knitting that came instead. No notice was given as to it folded. It is not on the website as far as I can see. No goodbye letter. No information as to now I am only going to get 2 issues, instead of the many I signed up for. Just a bad way to say goodbye.
Also I liked the simpler patterns, that I could knit without effort to decode more complicated directions. No stopping, just knit. I am also out $25 that I gave to Vogue to be a volunteer at a Vogue Knitting Live event that was cancelled. I have to figure out how I can get that money back or use it on a virtual event.
Disappointed, sad. Oh, have they taken a survey to collect information about what their subscribers might like to see more or less of? Or are they just going to forge ahead and continue Vogue Knitting in the exact format, style, and designers that they have chosen?
My impression of Vogue Live and Vogue Knitting is that they act New York snobbish in the knitting world. Can you open up the diversity to include a variety of models, older, different sizes, representatives of different parts of the country, as well as race and ethnicity?
That they didn’t inform us of the folding of the magazine and just substituted Vogue Knitting without approval demonstrates that they don’t care what their subscribers want.
How many more issues will receive? Please send me a link to use for using my $25 given for volunteer in March 2020 Live event
I too am disappointed about the folding of Knit Simple. The items were much easier to knit especially for gifts. Although I enjoyed reading Vogue most of the items I made were from Knit Simple. Are there any other magazines like that on the market?
I am surprised to see that a publishing company shows an utter disregard for any contracts they entered into when selling their products. I subscribed to the digital version of Vogue Knitting and I also purchased past issues of Vogue Knitting through the app. Now we (I am not the only one) have been logged out of the app and cannot access the magazines we purchased in good faith. This adds insult to injury! While I am disappointed that I did not receive the outstanding issues of Vogue Knitting in my subscription period, I am quite outraged at the fact that I cannot even access what I paid for and received I the past! And of course there is no reply to any email or any contact.
I feel your pain. I had digital issues on an older device and there was no way to transfer them to my iPad. Luckily, I have the hard copy editions. It took 3 weeks to even get a reply and that just asked for more information. Spent two months trying to get an answer. And then it was “um, no”.
In today’s world magazines are the safest. I LOVE and MISS Knit Simple!!! Wish it will make a comeback some day soon! Dont understand why you made this decision!
I wondered why I wasn’t receiving it! Will I be reimbursed for the subscription I got?
I called three times to ask for a reimbursement and hopefully it will be going through now. I was told the funds initially would go to my subscription to VK , but as that is paid in advance and they were not sure on the new cost for VK, since it was going down to 2 issues, I would get the refund.
I was wonding do you have any sock magazines. Or any up to date magazines.
I received only 1 of my 4 magazines from my Knit Simple subscription.
I expect a refund.

good luck. I have reached out to the publisher fives times now and was told my refund was coming. Last time was two weeks before Christmas. NOTHING. I called again last week.. left a message.. then left an email and no one has responded
Hi Laurie, We are not affiliated with the publisher of Knit Simple and cannot help you with your subscription or with issuing you a refund.
It appears that having a physical magazine or book in hand will slowly disappear as technology sources take over. As the older population decreases, I expect to see more of what I’m accustomed to decline. It saddens me because my comforts will disappear.
I’ve always enjoyed Vogue Knitting because they knew how to create the traditional, never goes out of style designs and the edgy designs. Their directions were spot on! I have many of their books for knitting and fashion sewing.
I have subscribed for several years. Have many issues downloaded to my iPad. I can’t access the issues without signing in. Problem is: I can’t remember my login and password. Have tried communicating with Knit Simple and NO ONE answers. What do I do?
I was informed by the company that they are no longer publishing Vogue Knitting and I subscribed for 2 years and only received 1 magazine. How do I get a refund?
Contact the publisher to ask about that.
