staffing changes

There have been a few recent staffing changes at craft companies so we thought we’d round them up here. If you’ve heard of others feel free to add them in the comments.

Ursula Morgan, who has served as CEO of Creativebug since July of 2014, is now Senior Vice President of Digital Innovations at CSS Industries, the company that owns the Simplicity and McCalls. Her first day was Monday. Morgan will be based at the company’s Plymouth Meeting office in Pennsylvania. Although we’re not sure exactly what “digital innovations” encompasses, perhaps she will be in some way overseeing the launch of the new digital pattern delivery system the company has planned.

Ellen March, who served as editor of F+W properties Sew News magazine, Creative Machine Embroidery magazine, Sew It All magazine, and content director for BurdaStyle.com as well as host of Sew It All TV on PBS, is now Director of Content at Sulky of America. March will be responsible for managing the overall content strategy for Sulky, including video production and digital content delivery. She’ll also work to expand the Sulky influencer program and strengthen the ecommerce business.

And finally, Laurie Baker, a 30-year veteran of the craft publishing trade who most recently served as the editor of Modern Quilts Unlimited magazine, has joined Martingale as Acquisitions and Development Editor. “We’re thrilled to have Laurie as a member of our close-knit editorial team,” says Karen Soltys, Martingale’s Content Director. “She’s worked for Martingale for many years as a freelance technical editor, and her knowledge of quilting and experience in our industry will be a great asset.”
