It’s hard to not feel powerless in the face of the escalating war in Ukraine, but there are small but impactful ways to support the aid effort through craft. While there are new initiatives coming every day, here is our list of 10 kits, patterns and ways to buy art to get you started. Support the effort through monetary donation, by bringing attention to the cause or by starting your own fundraiser.
1. Flying Fox Shawl pattern
Until April 8th 2022, all of the proceeds from the sale of the Flying Fox Shawl pattern along with a percentage of the proceeds from the sale of yarn purchased to make the Flying Fox Shawl pattern on LionBrand.com will go to Nova Ukraine, a 501(c)3 registered nonprofit organization dedicated to providing humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
2. Sunflower digital patterns
Sunflowers are the national flower for Ukraine. Rowan is offering free digital patterns for knitted or crocheted Sunflower Brooches, Sunflower Hoop and blue and yellow Suki sweater. Donate the proceeds from your pattern download directly to the Red Cross Appeal from their site.
3. Ukrainian flag quilt block
Berene Campbell of Happy Sew Lucky designed this little quilt block to share in the hopes that quilters might make something beautiful with it and flood the internet with pictures of their support. It is a simple message: “мир” means “PEACE” in Ukrainian, and the word is imposed on the Ukrainian flag.

World Central Kitchen
Since the Russian attack on Ukraine, millions of Ukranians have fled the country to take refuge in neighboring nations. We’re on the ground working with local restaurants to provide hot meals to these families. This will be one of our largest relief efforts to date and we plan to serve more meals every day. Join us in supporting Ukrainians in need – donate today:
This is so great Arline. Thank you for adding it here.
I’m hoping to raise a small fundraiser at school for ukraine, we start with an after school club in the art room for crafting, like pottery, etc. Any ideas for more???
We have a cowl and a hat knitting patterns available on Ravelry, along with supporting kits – ALL proceeds will go to support humanitarian efforts on the ground in Ukraine. Patterns are named SUNFLOWER RISING and all are also available on our website at http://www.mustloveyarn.com

Please share and let others know. We are willing to have other LYS put kits together, using the patterns, and donate proceeds as well.

Fantastic. Thank you for this addition Weeks.
It’s heartwarming to see so many efforts coming together to help Ukraine. I follow the developments there with horror, every night and pray for peace for them and for the rest of the world.
I wrote a post about some creative efforts I know about here:

A friend of mine has been organizing auctions on Facebook to raise money for World Central Kitchen. She sells vintage notions and others have contributed to the mix as well. One auction just started today, but check her page for updates:

This is very helpful, Rachel. Thank you!
Love all of these! I wish Zazzle would directly contribute royalties to the cause …collecting royalties even if for donation is a complicated thing for me as my day job is in highly-regulated financial services! Here is a blog post about how to stitch my sunflower… https://neonkittyquilts.com/2022/03/20/sunflowers-%f0%9f%8c%bb-for-ukraine/
Thanks, Laurie.
