Today I have a special episode of the Craft Industry Alliance podcast to share with you. I’m here at QuiltCon 2017 and I’m honored to have been able to sit for a few minutes with Katherine Jones who has won Best in Show for her quilt, “bling.”
“bling” by Kat Jones
Kat is from Tasmania, Australia and I caught her just a few hours before she had to catch a flight back home. We sat on the grass outside the convention center and chatted about the extraordinary paper pieced quilt she made called “bling.”
Kat has had award winning quilts in QuiltCon in years past, but she has a very low key online presence and many people are hearing about her for the first time. I wanted to hear her story, her approach to quilting, how she planned and executed such a stunning work of art, and what she’s going to do next.
If you’d like to see Kat talk briefly about her quilt watch this video filmed by the Modern Quilt Guild.
I took some close up shots of Kat’s quilt so that you can see the color details.

You must have taken this interview just for me Abby! Thanks so much for asking her all of my questions. It was so fascinating… I was listening on the edge of my seat (or sewing chair)!
xoxo,
Caroline
Good thing I ran into you beforehand. I knew just what to ask!
Wow, that’s beautiful! The quilt from a distance really looks like a cut diamond.
Yes, it really does! It’s so striking.
Thank you Abby for this podcast with Kat. What a wonderful opportunity to meet Kat and hear about her process.
Thank you for listening, Deborah.
Stunning! Just goes to show you can design anything into a quilt. I am new to quilting and your quilt has really inspired me to design my own family history quilt. Can’t wait to get started quilting.
Wow! What an amazing quilt! You are one talented quilter, Kat! Thank you for showing us this stunning piece of artistry!
Appreciate this post share, Wendy………..Abby’s interview with Kat was fantastic.
