This delicate Bolero knitting pattern from Mlle Pétronille looks great over a dress.
Cropped shrugs, sometimes called bodiless sweaters or super crops, are trending in knitting and crochet. These tops include a neck and arms, but don’t have a body, making them a faster project and a super fun style element. Dress up a yoga tank or sports bra or use as an arm warmer with a dress
We’ve rounded up some of our favorite super-cropped shrugs in this installment of our trends series called What’s New in Craft.

This is a hard pass from me. Such shrugs don’t really look great on most body types.
I agree with Lola. This places a very uncomfortable emphasis on the breasts, and most men stare at these enough as it is!
Thanks for this! I love shrugs, they are perfect for all times of the year and great when you have a sleeveless dress, but really don’t want to show your arms. I’ve already ordered one of the patterns via your links. Great Idea to have posts like this to introduce us to more indy designers.
That’s awesome to hear! We love them, too.
Yep I’ve designed, crocheted, and worn these: Liebling Shrug, Pullover Shrug, Fishlips Shrug, Mermaid Shrug, Ginkgo Flutter Shrug (all are in Ravelry and my website). Having a ‘womanly figure’, I find it certainly matters what the yarn weight, stitch texture, drape, etc are, as well as the occasion. They’re great for Zoom meetings, for example.
Great point! Thanks Vashti.
I have one in my book Modern Italian Lace Crochet! its called Il Velo da Sposa (the wedding veil in Italian) and can be see here: https://karenwhooley.com/product/modern-italian-lace-crochet/ (its the grey one.
